Firm history
1946 Operation started as the Yokohama Plant of  Tokyu Corporation at Yokohama.
1948 Tokyu Yokohama Plant Co. Ltd. was established by major Japanese railway firms of Tokyu Corporation, Odakyu Electric Railway, Keio Teito Electric Railway and Keihin Express Electrical Railway.
1953 The firm name was changed to Tokyu Car Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
1954 Japanese National Railways designated us as DMU builder for local, express and limited express.
1955 We delivered Low floor articulated LRV of floor height 590 mm and one axle bogie on articulated section for Tokyu Tamagawa line as Japanese first.
1958 We delivered skin stainless steel car body shell vehicle of Tokyu 5200 series EMU as Japanese first.
1959 Technology transfer agreement with the Budd company for stainless steel car body shell. Shares were listed on Tokyo stock exchanges.
1960 First stainless steel vehicle was rolled out as Japanese first.
1964 Amalgation with Toho Auto Engineering Co., Ltd. of prestige truck builder firm on an equal basis.
1966 Designated as the manufacture of "Shinkansen" for Japanese National Railways.
1967 Manufactured and delivered first "Shinkansen". Shares were listed on Osaka securities exchange.
1968 Amalgation with Teikoku Car and Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Of prestige rolling stock builder firm on an equal basis.
1969 We delivered the commuter vehicle of one-handle operation master controller as Japanese first and magnetic field chopper control on shunt motor as world first.
1973 The English firm name has been changed to Tokyu Car Corporation.
1988 Production of stainless steel railway vehicles reached a level of 2,000 units.
1990 Production of newly-constructed railway vehicles reached a level of 10,000 units.
1993 New factory, Hanyu Plant, has started to operate.
1994 Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) were delivered to Ireland, and this was the first time of export business of complete DMUs to EU countries from Japan.
1997 Approval of ISO 9001 Quality Management System
1999 New factory, Gunma Plant, has started to operate.
2000 Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) were delivered to Ireland, and this was the first time of export business of complete EMUs to EU countries from Japan.
2002 Delisted from the Tokyo stock exchanges and Osaka securities exchange. Becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyu Corporation.
2003 New factory, Wakayama Plant, has started to operate on 1st October, 2003.
2004 Production of stainless steel railway vehicles reached a level of 5,000 units.
